Schmid Law Library & Social Media Presence

In Check This Out on August 31, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Schmid Law Library, like many libraries, has a Facebook fan page and a Twitter account.  The law library started using Twitter over the 2008-09 Winter Break and Facebook in July 2009.  This blog came about during the 2010 Summer.  After discussing what other venues our law librarian’s could use to post relevant and interesting law library information, we decided to try blog on WordPress.

The library has an official website which provides links to library information, resources and the catalog.  The first library website appeared sometime in 1996, though it does not show up in the Way Back Machine.  Libraries embraced technology fairly early, so having a “social media” presence is nothing new just a bit different from the traditional website.  Being able to share information with users is even better in the Web2.0 world.  Instant response and instant gratification (for better and for worse).

What’s next?  Though we’re not sure what new social media site the law library will experiment with next, we will continue to be try new things.
