RIP Delicious

As you may know, Yahoo is closing Delicious a primary social networking bookmarking and tagging site.  Where will all the bookmarks go?  One suggestion is the Library of Congress but due to funding issues in the Federal Government this may not be a viable option.  Where will Internet users move their bookmarks?  Once again, not sure who the other kids on the block are but as good librarians we will seek out other sources for organizing and tagging our information.  RIP Delicious, you will be missed.

12/21/10 PS see this post by the travelin’ librarian for an update on Yahoo’s response in regards to Delicious

End of the year thoughts…

Wow, 2010 is quickly coming to an end so it’s time to stop and review what’s been going on.  To keep focused on one topic, we’ll look at social media use by the library.  The entire world of technology grew leaps and bounds this past year and what librarians and students use on a day-to-day basis is as varied as the people behind the laptop or mobile device.  The library started this blog in June 2010, the goal is one post per week.  Like a new puppy, we’re still getting used to it and figuring out what it should do (or not).  We continue to use Twitter and Facebook to interact with friends and followers and are positive that new social media opportunities will be around the corner.
