Do you realize that libraries offer books, Internet access, resources, a safe space, a creative space and the opportunity to learn for everyone who enters through its doors? Libraries also offer information access via the Internet to resources for education, continued learning, creativity and connecting with people around the world. Libraries are more than a place, the library can change your life.

Check out this PSA from Henry Rollins on why he LOVES libraries. Do yourself a favor; use your library!

Schmid Law Library in a Nutshell

In Check This Out on August 19, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Classes start in one week at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln! Schmid Law Library is happy to meet you at law school orientation later this week or welcome you back for the 2013-2014 academic year. Check out our Schmid Law Library in a Nutshell LibGuide to review library services, staff and librarians, IT information and more.

There’s some changes to be aware of as classes begin:

  • The Law College IT department moved in room 170 or the formerly North Computer Lab.
  • A Laptop Checkout program provides six laptop computers for law student use, the policy and details are available in the “Laptops & Computers” tab of the Schmid Law Library in a Nutshell LibGuide. We’ll review this new program at during First Year Orientation and at the Welcome Back meetings for the 2L & 3L students – check your student mailbox on for a more information as well.
  • There are two Express Internet computers for law student use in the library (located near the IT Suite, Room 170). Please limit your time to 30 minutes, a scanner for student use is also available.
  • Free Westlaw printing has gone away. While the Westlaw printers are still in the printer room (thank you Westlaw), these printers were donated so we now have four student printers. Make sure you check all four printers when claiming your print-jobs.
  • Last but not least, follow Schmid Law Library (@SchmidLibrary) on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook. Even Roscoe has joined the social media world, follow @RoscoeSez on Twitter.

We look forward to working with you this semester, if you have any questions or comments – please see a librarian or library staff member for help, we’re wearing the “Roscoe Sez” buttons.

Schmid Law Library has updated our Inter-Library Loan (ILL) request form – it’s now an easy-to-use online form available in the library’s Quick Links menu. Paper copies are still available at either the circulation desk or reference desks.

Items or article copies can usually be obtained from another library – on average, the process takes about 2 weeks at little or no cost. Schmid Law Library ILL Policies are located here.

Digital Tip for January 22nd…

In Check This Out on January 22, 2013 at 9:45 pm

Digital Tip(s) of the Week, January 22nd:

Undoing text on your iPhone…. if you are the ambitious type and use iWork on your iPhone, you may face a situation in any of the apps (Pages, Numbers or Keynote) where you simply want to “undo.”

The answer: shake the iPhone!

Be aware that shaking is a gesture that is written into the function of many iOS apps, so if you’re listening to music on your iOS device and it skips a song, it may simply be a function of you shaking the device.
